Sporting Kansas City FC coach Bruce Arena has led a coalition of Major League Soccer players to rally support for hurricane relief efforts in their native Honduras. The group arrived at Honduras airport and was flown in by a C-130 military plane. After flights to Honduras were cancelled due to a coronavirus pandemic, 50 Americans representing countries traveling to the tournament said: "We're stuck there. About 55 people, including players from the U.S. national team and internationals, are stranded in Honduras because the border was closed because of the coronvirus pandemic.
A week later, it was the Honduran team that had to endure fan rancor when the second game was moved to El Salvador. The team played in the San Pedro Sula Bowl in San Juan, Honduras, on August 27, 2-2 against the USA and reached a 1-1 draw in front of 3,000 fans. They traveled to play two more games, against Honduras on September 1 and El Paso on October 4. El Salvador defeated Guyana and the Netherlands Antilles, while Honduras defeated Costa Rica and Jamaica in its first two games.
A quick search on Facebook shows the team is one of thousands of Americans currently trapped in Honduras and other countries around the world. The team plans to speak out for people, especially those who still live in Honduras while they are at home, and someone has even set up a Facebook group. There is a list of all Americans stranded in countries other than Honduras, including a group for Americans in Peru. A message left with the Honduras embassy on Tuesday by USA TODAY Sports was not immediately returned. The team has not contacted Honduras yet, a spokesman for the U.S. Soccer Federation said.
The goal is to reach as many people as possible who are stranded in Honduras and help them get home. The group is now preparing to stay in the US for a few days at a hotel in San Antonio, Texas, according to a statement.

Figueroa made 102 appearances for El Salvador and played his first international against Honduras in 2014. The Central American neighbors will meet in the best of three series to decide which country would advance to the first Central American qualifying tournament in US history. Honduras and El Salvador meet in Mexico City in the 2015 Copa America Centenario.
